With reference to the Colonial Secretary's letter No 63%, addressed to you on the 11th instant respecting Messrs Fletcher and Olyphant's offer to purchase, I have the honor to report for the information of the Major General Commanding that the advantage of obtaining this property has been submitted to the War Department by one of my predecessors, and the scheme for reclaiming the foreshore in front of the War Department property was very prominently brought forward by Colonel Gordon, R.E., the late Q.M. General.
